Mood lighting in Mar Hall for the Wedding of David and Pamela

Not Just your average DJ but also a Toastmaster Scotland

For a more Personal and Unique Wedding, I offer a full day Master of Ceremonies Package AKA Toastmaster Scotland

I provide bespoke Toastmaster and Discos throughout Scotland.

As your wedding reception host I can play customized music of your choice for your guests arriving, the Bride walking down the Isle, signing of the register, and walking up the Isle as man and wife.

I can also assist your photographer by making announcements as to who is required next in the photographs. I will invite the bridal party into the room for the Wedding Breakfast, play suitable background music during your meal and announce the Cutting of the Cake.

My service also includes the supply of microphones for the toasts & speeches if required finally, no wedding reception would be complete without a special introduction for the Bride and Bridegroom onto the dance floor for their first waltz as husband and wife. (or Civil Partner/ Same sex Marriage).

I recently had the pleasure of being the toast master at the Wedding of David and Pamela in Mar Hall Bishopton, Renfrewshire. I have played in this venue many times and this is only my third time in this Hotel being the Master of Ceremonies. This was a mid week wedding with 140 day guests and another 60 in for the evening reception.  For a mid week Wedding its was extremely busy.

Pamela knew exactly how she imagined her big day, which was fantastic and at the end of the evening disco, she approached myself and said that I exceeded her expectations. It means a lot coming from a Bride who knew how she seen her own Wedding.

Mood lighting was supplied by another company, but I am using this photo, that I took to show how effective Mood Lighting/ Up lighting can be, either in a Marquee or any other venue.

More and more Bride and Grooms are now understanding that, I am not just your average Wedding DJ, I do not seek the lime light and do not like to hear my own voice on the microphone, I like to let the music do the talking. but I will help create the perfect party atmosphere and will remain professional through out the day.

Toastmaster Scotland Covers Glasgow, Edinburgh, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Loch Lomond, Stirling and all surrounding areas.

.

Kindest Regards

Chris

The Scottish Wedding Awards 2014

08/02/2014 by 1stdance

Wedding DJ Christopher Matthews has been nominated again for another Award

On the 6th February 2014 I was lucky enough to received a phone call from the Scottish Wedding awards  to say I had made the final two  for the West of Scotland  Scottish Entertainer of the year award 2014.

Last year is was my good friend Stephen Elliot who was lucky enough to be shortlisted for this award. Stephen unfortunately couldn’t attend due to work commitments and asked myself and my wife if we could go in his place. I was proud of Stephen for making the short list and even more chuffed that he asked me to fill in for him.

Unfortunately Stephen never one his award, but its still amazing to make the short list.

This event will take place in the Crown Plaza Glasgow on the 25th Febuary 2014.

Its an absolute honour to be Nominated for this award, especially as I was Shortlisted back in October 2013 for the VOWS Awards. The Scottish Wedding award has came to a surprise to me as I never asked my Brides and Grooms to vote for me. So who ever did, I would like to personally thank them

1stdance has been growing strength to strength  in the past few years, now getting recognised not only in Glasgow, but now in Edinburgh and New Castle.

2013 was a Great year for me, but 2014 looks like its going to be a better year, and I cannot do this with

Thank you to all the friends, family and Wedding suppliers who believe in me.

DJ’s offering extra services – Mood lighting and Master of Ceremonies.

First of all, to everyone who got engaged on Christmas day, Congratulations and welcome into the world of Weddings.

I can honestly say I was the “first Wedding DJ in Scotland” that I know of to invest in myself with training on becoming a modern day Master of Ceremonies .

Magazine_Advert_92mmx63mm (1)Vows awards

Like most other DJs in Glasgow they jump on the Band Wagon, Claim to be the best, undercut on prices and cheapen their services, because they are desperate to secure the booking. Its Great that my closest trustworthy DJ friends has seen the light and decided to take this journey with me.

I take it as an underhanded compliment that they want to up their game and invest their hard earned money on improving their business and offering extra service’s.

I do not claim to be the best, nor do I think I am the best: what I do believe is that I offer a Service with flexibility and professionalism being the key factor to help create memories to last a life time. I will also add that in 2013 I was lucky enough to be nominated for a Vows Award, sadly it I never won this time around, but hopefully 2014 I will be nominated again.

I always try to stay positive, as I believe there is no room more room for negativity in my business, but when I hear of so called Professional Wedding DJ’s , who don’t have back up equipment, turn up late to gigs, Drinking whist being paid to entertain, bring their friends along and chat to them or the ultimate sin: logging into Facebook or Twitter and updating there statuses or even worse. Commenting about “hating Drunk people” Slagging a guests off or posting on Forums, whilst working.

Now I have had my rant, I am back to discuss my additional service/

Mood lighting also known as LED Up-lighting: I strategically place lighting around the room in any colour you choose (Usually the colour theme on your day) and this creates a lovely ambient atmosphere for when you and your guests return to the room.

For a more Personal and Unique Wedding, I offer a full day Master of Ceremonies Package, As your wedding reception host I can play customized music of your choice for your guests arriving, the Bride walking down the Isle, signing of the register, and walking up the Isle as man and wife.

I hope you found this Blog interesting and not to Negative, as I said I always try to stay positive.

Unprofessional DJ’s in 2013……….. Why?

31/10/2013 by 1stdance

Unprofessional Wedding  DJ’s in 2013……… Why?

I understand that there is many types of DJs, Nightclub DJs, Wedding DJs, Hobby DJs,  Function DJs, Pub DJs, Kids Entertainer DJs etc.

Why in 2013 do we have still have  DJs that act or preform in an unprofessional manner.

I often get calls from Hotel Managers or distraught brides on the night of their Wedding or function date, saying their DJ hasn’t turned up, can I get them a DJ ASAP.

This often resorts from the client booking the lowest priced DJ, without meeting them, signing a contract or communicating with the them. I do not blame the Client I blame the Dj who took the booking and not honouring their word, after all we all love the Best Price.

I am of the opinion that if your take the booking as the Dj, you do the Booking as the Dj…. There is too many Djs subcontracting  “GIGS” out and not caring who the Dj is, as long as the original Dj is make a cut from the money.

There is also a lot of Dj’s who think they are professional,  yet they do not even have back up equipment, they turn up to some ones  Wedding or Party in there family car (which wont be insured for business use) with one set of Speakers, a couple of Lights and a laptop,…………… What happens if the speakers blow, or Lights blow  or the laptop crashes during the 1stdance on the most important day of a Bride and Grooms life, What are they going to do?…. I do not think an apology will quite do the job…

Back up equipment is essential and with out it you are taking a great risk of ruining some ones once in a life time event.

With 1stdance, I am 1stdance, I do not hide behind a company name, I do not pretend to be bigger than I am, by having content on my website saying “WE” or “OUR. I am a solo operator,  If you book 1stdance, you will get Christopher Matthews as your Wedding entertainment.

Mar Hall 1stdance Wedding DJ near Glasgow

Indie Music Wedding Reception at Mar Hall By Christopher Matthews 1stdance Wedding Dj

On Saturday the 26th October, I had the pleasure to being the Wedding DJ of Amy and Chris Bottomley.

Amy and Chris both stay in Chris’s home town of Sheffield, so I never got the chance to meet them, before their Wedding.

Amy contacted me via my website back in August 2012, we exchanged a few emails, then eventually spoke on the phone a few times,  Amy liked the  fact, that with 1stance.c.uk you can create your own playlist from the first dance to the last song, you can create your own playlist.

Chris and Amy gave me an extensive play list for there even reception, with Indie being the Genre of their choice, they also instructed me, that although they were happy for requests to be taken on the night, as long as it stayed within their taste, they didn’t want any one Direction.

This wasn’t a traditional Wedding,  there was no father daughter dance, no tossing of the bouquet , garter routine, basically just the 1st dance then straight into the party,  This is why its essential for your Wedding Dj to be flexible and understand, that its there Bride and Grooms big day and they can have it, the way there want.

When I arrived in Mar Hall, the Speeches were  just about finished, Straight after that, The room would be turned around and the even guests would be arriving, I immediately went up to Chris and Amy introduced my self and put them at ease about there 1stdance, as they were a little nervous.

Everything was running on time in Mar Hall, so the 1stdance was on time. Chris and Amy’s 1stdance song choice for  “Milburn- Alarm Bells” then straight into  “The Killers- Mr Brightside” which immediately filled the dance floor.

It was a great night had by all and Id like to thank both Amy and Chris for allowing me to be there Wedding Disco entertainment.

New Lanark Mill Hotel 1stdance Wedding DJ 22nd September 2013 John & Jean Cran

26/09/2013 by 1stdance

6 Weeks ago I go an Email from a Groom interested in my Wedding Dj Service’s, not long after I replyed, John (the Groom) had called me and wanted to meet up with myself along with his wife.

After having a long chat on the Telephone, we arranged to meet in the Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow and have a coffee a few days later.

after chatting for over an hour, Johns with to be Jean, had told me, she was very pleased with what she heard and seen and I was booked.

During our discussion in the Blythswood Square, John and Jean wanted to involve there guests as much as possible and like most Bride and Grooms, wanted their dance floor full all night, With  John, Jean and the majority of there guests  being in there sixties and mostly couples, I came up with the suggestion of Why not play your close friends and families 1stdance from their Wedding day and invite them up individually.

This was a Great idea both John and Jean had thought and decided this was a fantastic way to make their Wedding party feel more involve.

It was a lovely touch from such a special couple, not only it John and Jeans Big day, but they were also thinking of their guests.

John and Jean had also wanted Mood lighting, The colour of Mood lighting was to be kept a Secret from the Groom John, who had no ides, what the colour of the Bridesmaids Dresses, the Table décor or the Chair covers.

1stdance.co.uk Wedding DJ New Lanark Mill HotelThis photo doesn’t do the New Larnark Mill Hotel any justice with Mood Lighting as this particular photo is with the hall lights on.

This was the feedback left by John and Jean

Hi Christopher

Thank you for your performance on Sunday. We were really pleased with the way things went. The First Dances were much appreciated and your CDs were in great demand afterwards. I am sure some of our guests went home listening to the music you had played. We had numerous positive comments both about your disco, and your support. Many people appreciated the way their own first dances featured throughout the night, a number had not danced to them since their own wedding, in one case 40 years ago!

Thank you once again

Jean and John Cran

This makes me, why I know I love what I do and Passionate about Weddings

Samantha and Daryn Gillan @ The Lochside House Hotel Ayrshire 24th August 2013

Wedding Dj in Ayrshire, disco Lochside Hotel, 1stdance.co.uk, Wedding Dj near Glasgow

On Saturday 24th August 2013 I had the pleasure to come back to the Lochside House Hotel in Cumnock  Ayrshire, for the beautiful Samantha and Daryns Wedding.

Samantha and one of her friends, came to the Glasgow Girls Wedding fayre in September 2012, where I was on the main stage Djing, Samantha had asked for my availability and cost for Djing and Mood lighting. She said she liked whate she saw, and would go home and tell her Husband to be, that she wanted to book my service.

A week later I went to visit Samantha and Daryn in the comfort of their own home and they booked  me on the spot also for the Mood lighting.

Through out the build up to Samantha and Daryn’s big day, we exchanged numerous emails and telephone conversations, and we became friends.

The first walts was Jason Mraz- I wont give up, followed by the Bridal dance! bobbi Darin – beyond the Sea, then the dance was opened up to Stevie Wonder- Signed sealed and delivered.

From the moment I introduced myself to the Wedding party, I knew it was going to be an amazing night, the crowd were up for it, and instantly the dance floor was full from the 3rd song.

With reading the crowd, I decided to keep the Motown theme going, which they all loved.

Samantha and Daryn had hired Mancinni’s Ice cream cart, which also had Alcohol slush puppies, The guest’s loved the delicious  flavour’s Mr Mancinni and brought with him, not to mention the Strawberry Dakari slush.

At around 9:45pm The Groom use my Microphone to thank all the guests for helping make their day more special and enjoyable, before asking everybody to head outside for a Wonderful firework display, then heading back into the Lochside for Hot filled rolls, tea, coffee and of course Wedding cake

After around 20 mins, with background music, The party was ready to start again, I was asked dedicate a song to the Mother of the Groom Margaret.. Three times a Lady, which she started of dancing with the Groom’s brother David, Half way through the song, Daryn had taken his mother’s hand for the dance, while David had then got Samantha to dance with.

We then went into some Ceilidh Gay Gordon’s,  which had a fantastic response, this allowed the party to get back into the full swing.

Such an amazing night, night’s like these make me know, I have the best job in the World.

David and Ali’s Civil Partnership 11th August 2013 Cottiers in Westend Glasgow

19/08/2013 by 1stdance

The Civil Partnership of David and Ali 11th August 2013 in Cottiers

On Sunday 11th August 2013, I did a Civil Partnership in Cottiers in the West end of Glasgow. where will back I start.

Davids sister Jackie, 1st approached me in January of 2013 we arranged a client meeting in the Blythswood Square Hotel, fromwe  the moment knwe first met, we all got on like a house on fire, laughing and jokingon  while eating crisps and sipping ono out lattes in the Blythswood.

We spend just over an hour talking about how David and Ali seen their ”Big Gay Wedding.” Unfortunately Ali couldnt meet us, due to work commitments.

David booked me on the spot, with in first hour of meeting both him and Jackie.

We kept intouch  throughout the build up to the Wedding, through telephone calls and Emails, even text messages, I love it when clients become friends, I feel it makes their special day more personal.

David and Jackie, had then went on to speak very highly of me, to Cottiers, as their Wedding Co-ordinator Kirsty, had passed my details on to future clients, on only the refferals,  and with out me meeting Kirsty, but I soon went into thank her and finally introduce myself.

At first David and Ali didnt want a first dance, as they unsure who would lead the dance, but eventually they decided to have  Dusty Springfield track, alot of the play-list was music that I wouldnt normally play nor some of the tracks I had’nt even thought of.

I played had artist’s from  the Eurovision such as Roger Pontare- When Spirits are calling my name, to Lordi- Hard Rock Hallelujah and Margareta Beger- Feed you my love, also more Dusty tracks, to walk like a man,  Chirpy Chirpy, Cheep cheep as well as some David Guetta and Calvin Harris, David and Ali’s final song, which went down a storm was  “I am What I am” by Gloria Gaynor.

Also Sharing the Stage with me, was Singer contestant from 2007 Xfactor and 2013 BBC the Voice  Barbra Bryceland, I had the pleasure of Hosting David and Ali’s Wedding, from announcing the Speeches, to inviting David and Ali to do the Cutting of the Cake, before going into their first waltz, after the first walts, I was honoured to invite Barbra Bryceland on the stage where she preformed for the first 45 mins, She certainly knows hows to get the crowd up and involved, she truely is a fantastic entertainer and great to work beside. I went on for around 45 mins, then Barbar came back on for aprox 30 mins, before I took to the main stage and finshed the night off, It was also pleasing to see some familiar faces from the cast of “Mrs Browns Boys dancing away.

Here is a Testimonial from Jackie, the Sister of David:

” We had the absolute pleasure of having Chris DJ at my brother’s civil partnership on 11th August 2013 and can I say that from start to finish, Chris was a consummate professional.  He has worked hard to accommodate some rather challenging requests (!) and met the challenge and delivered!  We had a fantastic experience of 1stdance and Chris helped to make the day the roaring success it was.  Please please don’t think twice about booking Chris for your event, he is now our family’s official resident DJ!”

If anyone is thinking of a Wedding venue with a difference, Id highly recommed Cottier’s,  its an old converted Church, with Pillars and Stained Glass windows, as well as the staff are so friendly.

http://youtu.be/lqCVIRv6AW0 for those who have never heard of Barbra Bryceland.
